The English Department is excited to announce the 2025-26 Shannon-Clark Lecture, the department’s most distinguished lecture event of the year. Please join us on Thursday, October 22, at 6:00 p.m. in Northen Auditorium in Leyburn Library, where Prof. Joseph Albernaz (Columbia University) will deliver the annual Shannon-Clark Lecture in English. This event is free and open to the public.

Prof. Albernaz specializes in the literature, especially poetry, of the Romantic period, with a particular interest in the legacies of Romanticism across a number of theoretical, critical, and political domains. His first book, Common Measures: Romanticism and the Groundlessness of Community (Stanford University Press, 2024), which was awarded the MLA Prize for a First Book, reads writers from Geneva to Jamaica to trace new formations of community, ecology, and the everyday in Romantic literature and its later inheritors.
