Please join us on Thursday, October 22, at 6:00 p.m. in Northen Auditorium in Leyburn Library, where Prof. Joseph Albernaz (Columbia University) will deliver the annual Shannon-Clark Lecture in English, “As on a Holiday: Poetic and Festival Time in the Age of Revolutions." This event is free and open to the public.
Joseph Albernaz is Associate Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University, where he arrived in 2018 after completing his PhD at UC-Berkeley. He is the author of Common Measures: Romanticism and the Groundlessness of Community (2024), which was awarded the MLA First Book Prize. His interests span Romanticism, literary and critical theory, and radical history, and he is currently working on a book about calendars and revolutionary time. He also writes about contemporary poetry for general audiences in venues such as Los Angeles Review of Books, Public Books, and The Brooklyn Rail.
