Join the English Department in celebrating the work and upcoming retirement of our colleague Laura Brodie. Prof. Brodie's reading titled, "Confederate California and other Stores: A sharing of memoir and American history," will be held on Wednesday, April 1, at 7pm in Northern Auditorium. This free event is sponsored by the Glasgow Endowment for the Arts and is open to the public.
Laura Brodie is a Harvard graduate and visiting professor of English at Washington and Lee University in Virginia. Her first book, Breaking Out: VMI and the Coming of Women, was published by Pantheon to critical acclaim. Her memoir, One Good Year: Love in a Time of Homeschooling, is forthcoming from Harper. The Widow's Season, her first novel, won the 2025 Faulkner Society/Evans Harrington Grant for Best Novel-in-Progress.
