Conference or Symposium
Dec 4, 2025: 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
Stackhouse Theater
On Thursday, December 4 at 5:30PM in Stackhouse Theater, the DeLaney Center will host its 3rd annual Symposium with the theme, “Race, Military Service, and the Modern South.” This event will feature presentations by Dr. Robert Jefferson, Associate Professor of History-University of New Mexico, Dr. Annette Osborne, President-National Association of Black Military Women, and General Cedric Wins, Former Superintendent, Virginia Military Institute. During an hour-long panel, these accomplished individuals will engage the symposium theme guided by their study of or affiliation with the American armed forces. Following their talks, a moderator will lead the panelists in a conversation centered on issues raised during their remarks. The symposium will conclude with a question-and-answer session where the audience will join the discussion.
Against the backdrop of Veteran’s Day and high-profile military readiness assessments, this program provides timely meditations on an evocative subject. Please attend to help us unpack its protean dimensions. If you have questions, contact Sandy Sibold at DeLaneyCenter@wlu.edu or (540) 458-8027.
