Beginner Surfing in the Outer Banks

Recreation
Oct 10, 2025 to Oct 11, 2025
OBX

This trip costs $170, charged to your student account on the day of the trip.

Spend your reading days with the outing club at OBX! Camp for two nights near Nags Head, spend a relaxing few days on the beach, and learn to surf!

October in the Outer Banks features warm ocean temperatures, with potential for cooler nights. In addition to surfing, other activities may include exploring Jockey’s Ridge state park, visiting the Wright Brother Memorial, and having lots of beach time. If we play our cards right, we could even get some reading in too!

To participate during the surf lesson, you must be able to swim. No surfing or camping experience necessary! We will be sleeping at a campsite in tents provided by the outing club, and other camping equipment can be checked out at no cost! We will have access to bathrooms and showers, and we will cook our meals as a group on camping equipment.

We will start our travel by van the morning of Friday, October 10th and return to campus in the afternoon on Sunday, October 12th. The cost of the trip includes our campsite, meals that we will cook together, a beginner surfing lesson, transportation, and other group activities.

Registration for this trip opens Wednesday, 9/17 at 8:00pm. Reach out to Jacob Teer at jteer@wlu.edu with any questions!
