Talk Title: Ethical Considerations in Farmacology: The Tangled Web That Connects Soil and Human Health
Digging into the theme of ‘Taking Place,’ Dr. Miller first brings us to a field in California’s Central Valley where we investigate how forces in our food system contribute to soil loss, environmental degradation, and chronic disease. We then travel to such far-flung spots as a family farm in Bavaria, an urban garden in Illinois, and a ranch in Arkansas to uncover surprisingly simple “win-win” principles to restore ecosystems and nourish both people and planet. Finally, Miller brings us back to her clinic in Richmond, California, where these same ideas are taking root. You’ll see how growing healthy soil can grow something even bigger: a resilient local food movement and a healthy, connected community.
Come ready to think deeply about what it means to take place — and how the ground beneath our feet might be the right place to start.
